Bending stainless steel sheet metal is one of those operations that separates a capable fabrication shop from a mediocre one. The problem is springback - stainless steel has a strong tendency to spring back toward its original flat form after bending, which means a 90-degree bend might come out at 93 degrees if you don't compensate. And unlike mild steel, where you can just hit it harder with the press brake, stainless work-hardens as you bend it. Over-bend to compensate, and you risk cracking at the bend radius. Under-bend, and your enclosure panel doesn't fit together.

Our operators have developed bend allowance tables specific to stainless 304 and 316 that account for springback, material thickness variation, and grain direction - because bending with the grain gives you a different result than bending across it, and that difference can be the reason your enclosure fits or doesn't.
The typical workflow for an enclosure panel: laser cut the flat blank with all holes, cutouts, and features, then CNC bend the flanges, then perform any secondary operations like welding, tapping, or hardware insertion. This combination of laser cutting precision with press brake forming gives you panels that fit together cleanly without the gaps and misalignment that plague parts made on less precise equipment.
